Custom printed jute bags showing how design affects bulk pricing

What actually drives jute bag cost?

There's no single "price" for a jute bag — it's built up from a handful of factors. Once you understand them, you can design to a budget and compare quotes fairly.

1. Fabric quality (thread count / GSM)

Jute fabric comes in different qualities, usually described by thread count such as 12×12, 13×13 or 14×15. A denser weave is heavier and more durable — and costs more per metre. Coloured (dyed) jute also costs more than natural. Cotton and canvas are priced by GSM.

2. Bag size & gusset

Bigger bags use more fabric. Cost scales with the panel area — height, width and the gusset (depth) — plus hem and seam allowance. A small wine bag uses a fraction of the fabric of a large grocery tote.

3. Printing

Branding is often the second-largest cost after fabric. It depends on:

  • Number of colours — each screen-print colour adds cost
  • Print method — screen print, digital/sublimation or embroidery
  • Print area & sides — one side vs both

4. Handles & finishing

Self-fabric handles are cheapest; cotton webbing, rope or padded handles add cost. Extras like an internal pocket, zip, base board or lamination also add to the unit price.

5. Order quantity

This is the big one. Setup costs (screens, sampling) are spread across the run, so per-unit price drops sharply as quantity rises. The same bag can cost noticeably less at 5,000 pcs than at 500.

Indicative only: As a rough guide, simple natural jute totes often fall in the low-to-mid US-cents-per-piece range FOB at volume, rising with size, colour, premium handles and multi-colour print. Treat any published range as indicative — your real price depends on your exact spec and quantity.

Don't forget the "landed" costs

Your true cost per bag includes more than the factory price: sampling, ocean/air freight, insurance, import duty and local clearance. Factor these in when comparing suppliers — a direct manufacturer price plus known freight is usually far clearer than a marketplace listing.

How to get an accurate quote — fast

To price your bag precisely, share: bag type, size (H×W×gusset), fabric quality, handle type, print colours/method, and quantity. With those six details a manufacturer can quote quickly. New to the process? Read how to order jute bags from India.

Frequently asked questions

Why do quotes vary so much between suppliers? Different fabric quality, handle type and print specs — always compare like-for-like.

Does a higher quantity always lower the price? Generally yes, because fixed setup costs are spread further; the biggest drops are usually past 1,000 and 5,000 pcs.

Is sampling free? Digital mockups are usually free; physical samples may carry a small sample/courier charge that's often adjusted against bulk orders.
